As I read Blankets, I wonder if it's fiction, or if it is based off of Craig Thompson's life experiences. I mean, on the back jacket it is stated that he grew up in a small, Wisconsin town, the main characters name is Craig, etc. Though if it is a true story, then it will probably end up with a sad ending, as the back jacket makes no mention of a wife or of even a girlfriend.
Any thoughts on that?

I get the strong feeling that this is memoir, but Thompson takes a lot of liberties. Aside from the occasionally hyperbolic images, there are also scenes that are depicted in great detail but couldn't have been directly observed by Thompson - the mother popping pills while dictating a letter to Raina, for example. It's probably easier to read it as fiction, since the comic isn't really trying to do anything more than tell a story.
